# Slack

> Add your agent to a Slack workspace so your team can ask it questions in direct messages and channels.

Your agent can answer your team in Slack: in direct messages, and in channels when someone @mentions it. It's a quick way to give everyone access to your handbook, policies, or product docs. Slack is available on every plan, including Free.

  You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace, or a workspace admin who approves it.

## Add your agent to Slack

<Steps>

    Open your agent, click **Channels**, and click **Connect** on **Slack**. Slack's authorization page opens.

    Pick your workspace at the top right, choose the channel to post in, and click **Allow**.

  <Step title="Ask it something">
    In Slack, find the app under **Apps** in the sidebar and send it a message. To use it in a channel, add the app to the channel and @mention it with your question.

## How it works

* In direct messages the agent answers every message. In channels it answers when it's @mentioned, in a thread.
* Each person's conversation keeps its history. Type `/clear` to start over.
* Your [actions](/docs/agents/actions) work in Slack.

Once connected, open the Slack card to see **Manage Slack Workspaces**: each workspace with its channel, its status, and a switch to pause it. **Connect a New Slack Workspace** adds another workspace.

## Tips

* Train the agent on your internal documents: handbook, IT guides, benefits, product specs.
* Create a channel such as `#ask-the-agent` and add the app there, so answers are visible to everyone.
* In the [instructions](/docs/agents/instructions-and-model#instructions), say where to send people when the agent doesn't know, for example "Point people to #it-helpdesk."
