What is Industrial style?

Updated October 11, 2026

When factories in cities like New York and London closed in the middle of the 20th century, artists moved into their big, cheap spaces. They kept the raw brick, beams and tall windows, and loft living was born.

Industrial rooms show what other styles hide: ducts, pipes, bolts and concrete.

Warm wood, worn leather and soft textiles keep them from feeling cold, and big windows keep them bright.

  • Using only gray.
  • Fake brick that looks flat.
  • Too little light in big, open rooms.
