Design with a central space for dressing, surround with storage organized by clothing type, include a full-length mirror with good lighting, add a seating area for putting on shoes, ensure proper spacing between storage units for easy access (at least 36 inches in walkways), and consider an island or peninsula for folding clothes or displaying accessories.
Combine natural light (if possible) with layered artificial lighting including overhead ambient lighting, task lighting around mirrors, interior cabinet lighting, and accent lighting for display areas. Use high CRI (90+) bulbs at 3000-3500K color temperature for accurate color rendering, and install lighting on dimmers for flexibility.
Include hanging space of various heights (double-hang for shirts/pants, single-hang for dresses/coats), drawers for folded items, shelving for shoes and bags, specialized storage for accessories (jewelry drawers, tie/belt racks), hampers for laundry, and closed storage for off-season items. Customize depths based on what's being stored (16-24" for hanging clothes, 12-16" for shelving).
