Make the Invisible Visible: A Week of Action

Original Prompt: Draw a picture with this vision, but no words on the background. My friends, this is exactly what today’s Gospel warns us about. You know what’s terrifying about the rich man in Jesus’s story? He’s not evil. He’s not cruel. He’s just... successful. Lazarus lies right outside his gate. Every day. Like Miguel at the intersection. But the rich man developed a deadly superpower: making inconvenient people vanish. This isn’t about money. This is about blindness. The prophet Isaiah cries out: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil!” We’ve called our indifference... normal. Our selective blindness... acceptable. Saint James warns us: “Faith without works is dead faith.” The Church teaches about “caring for those society forget.” I bet every single person here has at least one “Miguel” in your life. Someone you pass by daily but have trained yourself not to see. Your lonely neighbor who never gets visitors anymore. Your stressed coworker carrying invisible family burdens. Your own child begging for attention while you scroll through your phone. The homeless person you’ve learned to ignore at the intercession. We’ve become experts at looking through human beings like glass, making them invisible. Here’s my challenge for you. This is real-life mission impossible. Next 7 days: Find ONE “Miguel” you’ve been making invisible. Do ONE concrete thing. Call your neighbor: “How are you really doing?” Really listen to your child instead of saying “I’m busy, maybe later.” Buy lunch for the homeless at the intersection. Text your coworker: “You okay? You seem stressed lately.” Visit that elderly relative sitting alone in silence. Smile genuinely at the cashier having a rough day. Ask the janitor his actual name – and remember it next time. This isn’t about being a hero. This is about being human. But here’s what gives us tremendous hope: God’s mercy is infinitely bigger than our blindness. Jesus came precisely for people like us – people who sometimes can’t see the pain right in front of our faces. Abraham says in the Gospel: “If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t believe even if someone rises from the dead.” We’ve heard enough sermons. We know exactly what love looks like. Only question left: Will we actually act? Don’t wait for your car to break down like Dr. James. Don’t wait for crisis to force your hand. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Open your eyes TODAY. When you receive Communion today, don’t just pray for God to bless you. Pray for Jesus’s eyes to see with. His heart to love with. Remember: Jesus saw you when you were invisible to everyone else. He noticed you when you felt completely forgotten. The Eucharist transforms us into people who see like Jesus sees. Then go make someone visible this week. My friends! The only mission impossible... is the one we never start. Countdown begins: 7... 6... 5... Ready or not?
